The String Craft: Bilum + Dilly Bag exhibition is a platform to promote the value of indigenous practice through its focus on the PNG Bilum (string bag) and the Aboriginal Dilly Bag. The dilly-bag inspired art features installations from First nations WA artists Lea Taylor and Katie West and a selection of dilly bags and textile artworks from Northern Territory artists from Bula’bula Arts Ramingining and Babbarra Women’s Centre, Maningrida. The bilums come from a grouped private collection and cover a range of traditional and contemporary bilum styles, patterns, fibres and functions of bilums found across the culturally and linguistically diverse country of PNG.

String Craft: Bilum + Dilly Bag is part of and supported by IOTA24 – the Indian Ocean Craft Triennial, a celebration of contemporary craft that takes place in Western Australia every three years. The theme for IOTA24 is ‘Codes in Parallel’ and runs from August to November.
